Description
Product Introduction
The IS200SCTTG1AAA is the extended-temperature version of the TTL serial interface module. It has the same two TTL serial ports, two digital inputs, and two digital outputs as the standard SCTTG1A, but with cold-rated TTL transceivers that maintain their logic levels and switching speeds from –40 °C to +70 °C. If your custom digital devices are in outdoor cabinets, this is the module that keeps the TTL link alive when the temperature drops.
The “AAA” suffix means GE upgraded the TTL transceivers to parts that hold their output drive and receive thresholds at low temperatures (standard TTL devices can shift their switching point by 10% at –40 °C). The oscillator is a 5 ppm, temperature-compensated part that holds baud rate accuracy across the full range. The module has conformal coating. The rest is the same: two TTL ports, two digital inputs, two digital outputs.

Quality Inspection Process (SOP Transparency)
The SCTTG1AAA gets the thermal chamber treatment—our 28-point inspection includes TTL logic level and baud rate tests at –40 °C and +70 °C.
Incoming Verification. OEM packing slip matched to GE’s serial database. We log the serial and photograph the anti-static bag before cutting. The holographic GE label gets a UV check. The PCB edge must read “–SCTTG1AAA” clearly.
Visual Inspection. Magnifying lamp, full board scan. Conformal coating must be continuous. The cold-rated TTL transceivers and 5 ppm oscillator are visually confirmed. The 96-pin backplane connector shows zero wear.
Live Functional Test. Mark VIe test rack with a TTL test device (logic analyzer), DC source bank, load bank, and Tenney chamber.
- Cold soak (4 hours at –40 °C): TTL logic level test—5 V mode: verify output levels are within spec. 3.3 V mode: verify output levels. Serial communication test—9,600, 19,200, 115,200 baud—verify no errors. Digital I/O tests.
- Hot soak (4 hours at +70 °C): Same tests—all specs must hold.
- Baud rate accuracy at –40 °C: Use a frequency counter to measure the actual baud rate—must be within ±2%.
- Logic level stability at –40 °C: Measure output voltage at 5 V and 3.3 V settings—must remain within ±5% of nominal.
- Isolation test: 2,500 V RMS—no breakdown.
- Thermal cycle: 3 cycles from –40 to +70 °C.
- 24-hour soak at 50 °C.
Electrical Parameters. Insulation resistance: 500 VDC via Megger MIT420, >20 MΩ. Ground continuity: <0.1 Ω.
Firmware Verification. Read the firmware via ToolboxST—verify the checksum.
Final QC & Packaging. The QC report includes TTL logic level verification at extremes, serial communication at multiple baud rates, baud rate accuracy, digital I/O, isolation test, thermal cycle log, and a photo.
Field Replacement Pitfalls
The SCTTG1AAA handles temperature extremes, but installation mistakes are the same as the standard version.
Logic Level—Set 5 V or 3.3 V Correctly. The module must be configured for the correct logic level. If you set 5 V and connect a 3.3 V device, you’ll damage the device—even at cold temperatures.
TTL Signal Polarity—Check It. TTL serial uses inverted logic. If the device expects non-inverted logic, the module won’t communicate.
Wiring—Keep It Short. TTL signals are not designed for long cables—use short leads (< 3 feet). At cold temperatures, cable capacitance can be an issue.
Grounding—TTL Requires a Common Ground. The TTL ground must be connected to the module’s ground. One site in Alaska didn’t connect the ground—the communication was noisy at –35 °C.
Cold Temperature Logic Levels—The “AAA” Holds Levels. The cold-rated transceivers maintain output levels at –40 °C. But the connected device might not. Use a device rated for –40 °C.
ESD. TTL devices are CMOS—sensitive. Strap up.
New Original vs. Refurbished: Why It Matters
The SCTTG1AAA has cold-rated TTL transceivers and conformal coating—refurbishers can’t add these.
What “New Original (New Surplus)” means. This IS200SCTTG1AAA came from GE’s factory with the cold-rated transceivers and coating. We break the seal only for testing.
Refurbished risk in plain terms. A refurbisher may buy a standard SCTTG1A, clean it, and sell it as an “AAA.” At –40 °C, the standard TTL transceivers’ switching points shift—the logic levels are marginal. I’ve tested refurbished “AAA” units that were actually standard SCTTG1As—they failed the cold soak logic level test. Failure rate on refurbished extended-temp TTL interface modules runs 5× higher than new.
Real cost of a refurbished failure. A TTL link fails at –35 °C—a custom sensor interface stops communicating—turbine protection loses a critical input—turbine trips—lost generation—30,000. The refurbished module saved you 800. The failure cost you 37× that.
What we provide as proof. For every IS200SCTTG1AAA we ship: a photo of the OEM packing slip, serial traceability to GE’s records, a full test report that includes TTL logic level verification at –40 °C and +70 °C, serial communication at multiple baud rates, baud rate accuracy, digital I/O, isolation test, thermal cycle log, and a sealed anti-static bag.
Pricing context. Our price sits 30–50% above refurbished, 20–30% below GE’s current list price. The delta covers our sourcing, our extended-temperature TTL testing, and a 12-month warranty.
