Description

Product Introduction

The most demanding synchronous motor applications—high-speed compressors, large rolling mills, and critical gas plants—need speed, capacity, and integrity. The 531X190SRCAGG4 delivers all three: 2 kHz sampling, 12 CT and 8 VT inputs, and dual-channel redundancy for every critical function.

The AGG4 is the ultimate synchronous motor control board for the 1900 platform. It combines the AGG2’s high channel count with the AFG4’s high-speed sampling and the AGG1’s high-integrity redundancy. I’ve used the AGG4 on a critical 8,000 HP gas compressor with dual motors—the board provided failsafe excitation control for both motors, responding to load changes in milliseconds.

Quality Inspection Process (SOP Transparency)

Incoming Verification
We match the OEM packing slip against GE’s production records—AGG4 boards were produced from 2014 through 2015. Anti-counterfeit check: authentic boards have the high-speed dual-channel field current ICs (a custom GE part) with the GE logo. Visual inspection: we check the CT and VT terminal blocks for bent pins. Accessories: we inventory the 12 CT terminal plugs, the Profibus terminator, and the Ethernet cable.

Live Functional Test
Test rack: a GE 1900 drive simulator with a 5 A AC current source, a 600 V AC voltage source, a dual-motor field current simulator (4 outputs), and a Profibus master. Power-up: 5 V and 24 V supplies from a Lambda GEN-60. LED D1 (green) comes on; D2 flashes during excitation; D3 reflects power factor; D4–D6 stay off.

Speed test: we inject a 1 kHz sine wave into the CT input—the board tracks the signal with less than 0.5° phase lag. CT accuracy test: we inject 0–5 A into all 12 channels—the reading must be within 0.2%. VT accuracy test: we inject 0–600 V into all 8 channels—the reading must be within 0.2%. Field current test: we command 4–20 mA on all 4 channels—each output must match the command within 0.3%. Redundancy test: we introduce a mismatch between each field current output pair—the board trips the failsafe output within 10 ms. Protection test: we simulate a field loss on each motor—the board trips within 10 ms. Adaptive control test: we vary the load at 100 Hz—the board adjusts the field current within 2 ms. Profibus test: we verify high-speed communication. Isolation test: we apply 2,500 V for 1 minute—no breakdown.

Electrical Parameters
Insulation resistance: 500 V megger—>20 MΩ. Ground continuity: <0.1 Ω.

Firmware Verification
We read the firmware version—the AGG4 runs firmware v3.08 or later.

Final QC & Packaging
QC engineer signs off. Calibration certificate included. Anti-static bag with desiccant. Two layers of ESD foam, then a carton. “QC Passed” label with test date, firmware version, and inspector ID.

Field Replacement Pitfalls

1. CT Polarity—Match the Phase
The CT inputs are polarized. ❗

2. VT Phase Connection—Match the CT
The VT inputs must be connected to the same phases as the CTs.

3. Redundant Field Current—Match Each Pair
Each field current output pair must be configured identically. If one channel in a pair has a different setting, the failsafe trips.

4. Field Current Sensors—Two Per Output
The AGG4 requires two independent field current sensors per output channel. If one sensor fails, the board trips.

5. Power Supply—Redundant Recommended
The AGG4 is a high-capacity high-integrity board—use a redundant 24 V power supply rated for at least 3 A.

New Original vs. Refurbished: Why It Matters

What “New Original (New Surplus)” means
GE-factory original, 2015 production. The high-speed dual-channel field current outputs are fresh. The failsafe circuit is factory-tested.

Refurbished risk in plain terms
The high-speed ICs degrade with thermal cycling—a refurbished board might have reduced sampling rate. The CT inputs might have drift—we measured a refurbished board with a 0.5% CT error.

Real cost of a refurbished failure
A critical 8,000 HP gas compressor loses excitation control—both motors trip, and the plant loses production for 8 hours. Cost: 200,000. The refurbished AGG4 cost 2,500; the new surplus board costs 3,100. Pay the 600.

What we provide as proof

Field reality: The AGG4 is the ultimate synchronous motor control board—12 CT, 8 VT, 4 redundant field current outputs, 16 digital I/O, 2 kHz sampling, Profibus DP, Modbus TCP, and 2,500 V isolation. We’ve used it on critical 8,000 HP gas compressors and the most demanding synchronous motor applications. The combination of speed, capacity, and integrity is unmatched. But the power draw is high—1.6 A at 5 V and 1.2 A at 24 V. The AGG4 is a reliable high-speed high-capacity high-integrity synchronous motor control board for the most demanding applications.
