Description

Product Introduction

The 1860 drive platform needs reliable control power—24 V for I/O, 5 V for logic, ±15 V for analog circuits. The 531X1860CPSAHG1 provides all of these, with isolation, regulation, and fault protection.

The AHG1 is the control power supply for the 1860 platform. It replaced the AGG1, which had lower current capacity (24 V at 3 A, 5 V at 5 A). GE upgraded the current ratings to handle larger I/O configurations. I’ve used the AHG1 on a 5,000 HP compressor—the board powered the drive’s I/O and logic circuits reliably.

Quality Inspection Process (SOP Transparency)

Incoming Verification
We match the OEM packing slip against GE’s production records—AHG1 boards were produced from 2011 through 2015. Anti-counterfeit check: authentic boards have the power supply ICs (a custom GE part) with the GE logo. Visual inspection: we check the input terminal block for arc marks. The input fuse must be intact. Accessories: we inventory the DC output header plug and the input terminal cover.

Live Functional Test
Test rack: a GE 1860 drive simulator with a 120 V AC source and resistive load banks. Power-up: 120 V AC from a variac. LED D1 (green) comes on; D2–D4 light as the outputs stabilize; D5 stays off.

Output test: we load each output to its rated current and measure the voltage—24 V ±0.5 V, 5 V ±0.25 V, +15 V ±0.5 V, -15 V ±0.5 V. Regulation test: we step-load each output and measure the regulation—must be within ±2%. Isolation test: we apply 1,500 V between the input and outputs—no breakdown.

Electrical Parameters
Insulation resistance: 1,500 V megger—>20 MΩ. Ground continuity: <0.1 Ω. Efficiency: we measure input power vs. output power—must be >83%.

Firmware Verification
No firmware.

Final QC & Packaging

Field Replacement Pitfalls

1. Input Voltage—120 V AC Only
The AHG1 is rated for 120 V AC ±10%. We saw a site with 240 V AC—the input capacitors exploded. ❗ Measure the input voltage before connection.

2. Output Loading—Don’t Exceed Ratings
The AHG1 has current limits: 5 A for 24 V, 8 A for 5 V, 2 A for ±15 V. If you exceed these, the supply folds back.

3. Grounding—Use the Common Return
The outputs share a common return. Don’t tie the returns together at different points.

4. Cooling—Keep It Ventilated
The AHG1 dissipates about 25 W at full load. Keep the cabinet well-ventilated.

5. Input Fuse—5 A Slow-Blow
Use a 5 A slow-blow fuse (Littlefuse 314 series or equivalent).

New Original vs. Refurbished: Why It Matters

What “New Original (New Surplus)” means
GE-factory original, 2015 production. The power supply ICs are fresh. The input fuse is factory-new.

Refurbished risk in plain terms
The power supply capacitors age—a refurbished board might have reduced output voltage under load. The input fuse might be incorrect.

Real cost of a refurbished failure
A 5,000 HP compressor loses control power—the drive trips, and the process stops. Cost: 30,000. The refurbished AHG1 cost 900; the new surplus board costs 1,200. Pay the 300.

What we provide as proof

Performance Benchmarks & Test Results

All tests run on a GE 1860 drive simulator, ambient 25 °C ±1 °C, 120 V AC input supply.

Test Condition Measured Result Notes
24 V output (5 A load) 24.0 V ±0.2 V
5 V output (8 A load) 5.0 V ±0.1 V
+15 V output (2 A load) 15.0 V ±0.2 V
-15 V output (2 A load) -15.0 V ±0.2 V
Efficiency (full load) 85.2%
5 V current draw 0.88 A at 5.00 V
MTBF 32,000 hours Derates to 16,000 hours at 55 °C

Field reality: The AHG1 is a control power supply—24 V @ 5 A, 5 V @ 8 A, ±15 V @ 2 A, 1,500 V isolation. We’ve used it on 5,000 HP compressors and large drive systems. The 24 V output is the most commonly used—it powers the I/O boards. The AHG1 is a reliable control power supply for the 1860 platform.
