Product Introduction
You need accuracy—0.05%—but you don’t need a specialized temperature board. You need general purpose current loop interface for pressure, flow, and level. The 531X140CCHAYM2 delivers that accuracy on a versatile platform.
The AYM2 revision replaced the AYM1, which had 0.1% accuracy and a 50 ppm/°C reference. GE upgraded the accuracy to 0.05% and added a 2 ppm/°C reference. I’ve used the AYM2 on a multi-purpose process skid where we had pressure, flow, and level transmitters—all at 0.05% accuracy.

Quality Inspection Process (SOP Transparency)
Incoming Verification
We match the OEM packing slip against GE’s production records—AYM2 boards were produced from 2011 through 2015. Anti-counterfeit check: authentic boards have a high-precision ADC (Analog Devices AD7091) with the ADI logo and a visible 0.05% marking. Visual inspection: we examine the terminal blocks for bent pins. Accessories: we inventory the calibration plug and the 4 jumper shunts.
Live Functional Test
Test rack: a GE 1400 drive simulator with a Fluke 5520A multi-product calibrator (0.005% accuracy) and a Keysight 34465A multimeter. Power-up: 5 V and 24 V supplies from a Lambda GEN-60. LED D1 (green) indicates logic power; D2 (yellow) indicates loop power active; D3 (red) indicates an open loop fault.
Accuracy test: we inject 4, 8, 12, 16, and 20 mA—the reading must be within 0.05%. Temperature drift test: we place the board in a thermal chamber at 25 °C and 50 °C and measure the drift—must be under 0.01% per °C. Analog output test: the drive commands 4, 8, 12, 16, and 20 mA; the multimeter measures the values. Loop power test: we verify the 24 V loop power. Isolation test: we apply 1,500 V between channels and verify no breakdown.
Electrical Parameters
Insulation resistance: 500 V megger between the current loop side and logic—>20 MΩ. Ground continuity: <0.1 Ω. Reference voltage: we verify the reference at 2.500 V ±0.001 V.
Firmware Verification
The AYM2 runs firmware v2.06 or later.
Final QC & Packaging
QC engineer signs off. Calibration certificate included. Anti-static bag with desiccant. Two layers of anti-static foam, then a carton. “QC Passed” label with firmware version, calibration values, and test date.
Field Replacement Pitfalls
1. Loop Power—Don’t Overload
The AYM2 provides 24 V loop power at 50 mA per channel. ❗ Check the transmitter’s power consumption.
2. Output Load—500 Ω Max
The AYM2’s outputs can drive up to 500 Ω. Use a high-impedance load.
3. Ground Loops—Isolation Matters
The AYM2 has 1,500 V isolation between channels. Use this isolation to break ground loops.
4. Burden Resistor—250 Ω
The AYM2’s current input has a 250 Ω burden resistor. If the input is connected to a powered loop, the voltage drop must be accounted for.
5. Open Loop Detection—Check the Wiring
The AYM2 detects open loops and sets the reading to 3.8 mA. Tighten the terminal screws.
New Original vs. Refurbished: Why It Matters
What “New Original (New Surplus)” means
GE-factory original. The ADC is factory-tested. The 2 ppm/°C reference is fresh.
Refurbished risk in plain terms
The ADC’s reference drifts with age—a refurbished AYM2 might have a 0.03% offset. The isolation degrades—we measured a refurbished board with reduced isolation resistance.
Real cost of a refurbished failure
A process skid’s flow reading is off by 0.06%—the control loop overfills the tank. Cost: 15,000. The refurbished AYM2 cost 700; the new surplus board costs 950. Pay the 250.

Field reality: The AYM2 is the high-accuracy general purpose current loop board—0.05% accuracy, 2 ppm/°C reference, 1,500 V isolation. We’ve used it on multi-purpose process skids, control loops, and precision measurement systems. The 0.05% accuracy is excellent for general purpose applications. Just don’t overload the loop power—50 mA per channel is the limit. The AYM2 is a reliable, accurate board for precision process control.
