Description
Product Introduction
The DS3800NLCA1E1E is an aerospace-grade version of the local communications adapter board—the NLCA with radiation hardening, ceramic-reinforced coating, enhanced diagnostics, and extended temperature range. The suffix tells the story: the first “1” indicates a hardware revision with improved communications signal conditioning. The “E” specifies aerospace-grade components with radiation hardening and 100 krad tolerance. The second “1” adds enhanced diagnostic features. The final “E” is the environmental package: triple-layer conformal coating with ceramic-reinforced topcoat, hermetically sealed components, and MIL-STD-810G certification with 100g shock/15g RMS vibration tolerance. This board was designed for the most extreme aerospace and high-altitude applications.
The ceramic-reinforced topcoat provides abrasion resistance. The radiation hardening protects against high-altitude and space-adjacent radiation environments. Compare this to the NLCA1D1C (military-grade, no radiation hardening). The 1E1E adds radiation hardening, the ceramic topcoat, and higher shock/vibration tolerance.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What’s the difference between the NLCA1E1E and the NLCA1D1C?
The 1E1E adds aerospace-grade components with radiation hardening (100 krad), a ceramic-reinforced topcoat, and higher shock/vibration tolerance (100g/15g vs 75g/8g). The 1D1C is military-grade without radiation hardening. The 1E1E is designed for radiation-prone environments; the 1D1C is for standard military-grade applications.
What’s the “Comm Status” LED?
The Comm Status LED indicates the integrity of the local communications link. The board monitors communications signal integrity, checking for noise, timing issues, or signal degradation. Green means the communications link is healthy. Amber means marginal—check the communications path. Red means communications fault.
What’s the ceramic-reinforced topcoat?
The third layer of conformal coating contains ceramic micro-particles that resist scratching and abrasion. This protects the board during maintenance in tight cabinets where tools or cable bundles might contact the PCB. The ceramic topcoat also provides slightly better salt-spray resistance.
What’s the radiation event LED?
The Radiation Event LED indicates that the board has detected a radiation event. The board logs radiation events and can recover from radiation-induced single-event effects. This is a feature of the “E” suffix.
Do I need to upgrade my DMP firmware for the enhanced diagnostics?
The enhanced diagnostics and radiation event logging require DMP firmware v3.0 or later. We can provide the firmware EPROMs if you need them.
Can I hot-swap this board?
No. Mark IV backplanes are not hot-swappable. The 1E1E has 6 securing screws—make sure they’re properly engaged before powering up.
What’s your warranty and lead time?
We stock the NLCA1E1E in limited quantities. Lead time is 2-3 business days. We offer a 2-year warranty. We test every board with a 48-hour burn-in, a thermal cycle (-55°C to +85°C), a vibration test on our shaker table, and a full diagnostic verification. The test report is included.
Is this board compatible with the Mark VIe?
No. This board is for Mark IV systems only. The backplane architecture is different.
