What’s the difference between the NGPA1B1C and the base NGPA?
The 1B1C adds extended temperature range (-40°C to +70°C vs 0 to 60°C), enhanced diagnostics (configuration verification, link quality monitoring), and dual-layer conformal coating with UV protection. The base NGPA has basic link status only. The coating is the biggest practical difference in harsh environments.
What’s the “Config OK” LED?
The Config OK LED verifies that the board’s jumper and firmware settings are consistent with the Mark IV system’s configuration. If the LED is green, the configuration is correct. If it’s red, the board is misconfigured—check the jumper settings and the firmware configuration. This catches misconfigurations before they cause problems.
Will the UV topcoat degrade over time?
No. The UV-resistant topcoat is formulated to resist degradation from UV exposure. In our accelerated aging tests (1,000 hours of UV exposure), the topcoat showed no yellowing or cracking. The underlying acrylic layer remained intact.
Do I need to upgrade my DMP firmware for the enhanced diagnostics?
The enhanced diagnostics require DMP firmware v3.0 or later. Older firmware won’t recognize the diagnostic registers. We can provide the firmware EPROMs if you need them.
How is the NGPA configured?
The NGPA is configured via jumpers on the board or through firmware settings. If you’re replacing a failed NGPA, photograph the jumper settings before removing the old board. The Config OK LED will verify that the settings are correct.
Can I hot-swap this board?
No. Mark IV backplanes are not hot-swappable. Power down the cabinet, lock out the breaker, and wait 60 seconds before removing or installing the board.
