Description
Product Introduction
The DS3800NFMC1E1C takes the centralized fiber management of the base NFMC and adds components that survive harsh environments and diagnostics that reveal network health. The board provides the same routing and status monitoring as the base NFMC but adds an extended temperature range, enhanced diagnostics (link quality trending, error logging), and dual-layer conformal coating with UV protection. This is the board for outdoor cabinets, uninsulated shelters, or coastal installations where the standard NFMC would fail.
The advanced diagnostics monitor the health of every link in the network—signal-to-noise ratio, optical power, and error rates. The dual-layer coating resists humidity, salt spray, and UV degradation. Compare this to the base NFMC (standard temperature range, basic diagnostics, no coating). The 1E1C is the board you install when the network is complex and the environment is hostile.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What’s the difference between the NFMC1E1C and the base NFMC?
The 1E1C adds three things: extended temperature range (-40°C to +70°C vs 0 to 60°C), advanced diagnostics (link quality trending, network health reporting), and dual-layer conformal coating with UV protection. The base NFMC has basic link status only. The coating is the biggest practical difference in harsh environments.
What’s the “Network Health” LED?
The Network Health LED provides a summary view of the entire fiber optic network. The board continuously monitors the signal-to-noise ratio, optical power, and error rates on every link. Green means all links are healthy. Amber means one or more links are marginal. Red means a link is failing. This gives you a single indicator of overall network health—you don’t need to check each link individually.
Do I need to upgrade my DMP firmware for the advanced diagnostics?
The advanced diagnostics require DMP firmware v3.5 or later. Older firmware won’t recognize the diagnostic registers—the board still passes data, but the Network Health LED won’t function correctly. We can provide the firmware EPROMs if you need them.
Can I use this board with the long-haul fiber boards?
The NFMC1E1C manages the routing and status of links, but it relies on the transceiver boards to handle the physical layer. If you’re using long-haul boards with different wavelengths, the master controller will still manage the routing—it’s transparent to the physical layer. The diagnostics will work as long as the transceiver boards provide the necessary status signals.
Can I hot-swap this board?
No. Mark IV backplanes are not hot-swappable. Power down the cabinet, lock out the breaker, and wait 60 seconds before removing or installing the board.
What’s your warranty and lead time?
We stock the NFMC1E1C in limited quantities. Lead time is 2-3 business days. We offer a 1-year warranty. We test every board with a 24-hour burn-in and a full diagnostic verification. The test report is included.
Is this board compatible with the Mark VIe?
No. This board is for Mark IV systems only. The backplane architecture is different.
