Description
Product Introduction
Inter-cabinet fiber links are only as reliable as their termination points. The DS3800NFLA1C1C upgrades the standard link adapter with components that survive harsh environments and diagnostics that tell you when a link is degrading. The board provides the same termination and signal conditioning as the base NFLA but adds an extended temperature range, enhanced diagnostics (link quality monitoring, signal integrity reporting), and dual-layer conformal coating with UV protection. This is the board for outdoor cabinets, uninsulated shelters, or coastal installations where the standard NFLA would fail.
The enhanced diagnostics continuously monitor the signal-to-noise ratio and optical power on each link. The dual-layer coating resists humidity, salt spray, and UV degradation—extending the board’s service life in harsh environments from about 5 years to over 15, based on our field observations. Compare this to the base NFLA (standard temperature range, no diagnostics, no coating). The 1C1C is the board you install when the environment is the enemy.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What’s the difference between the NFLA1C1C and the base NFLA?
The 1C1C adds three things: extended temperature range (-40°C to +70°C vs 0 to 60°C), enhanced diagnostics (link quality monitoring, signal integrity reporting), and dual-layer conformal coating with UV protection. The base NFLA has basic link status only. The coating is the biggest practical difference in harsh environments—we’ve seen uncoated boards fail in 3-4 years in coastal installations, while coated boards from the same period are still running.
What’s the “Signal Quality” LED?
The Signal Quality LED monitors the integrity of the fiber optic link passing through the adapter. The board measures the signal-to-noise ratio and the amplitude of the incoming optical signal. Green means good. Amber means marginal—the link is degrading and should be checked. Red means poor—the link is at risk of failure. This gives you days or weeks of advance warning, not minutes.
Do I need to upgrade my DMP firmware for the diagnostics?
The enhanced diagnostics require DMP firmware v3.5 or later. Older firmware won’t recognize the diagnostic registers—the board still passes data, but the Signal Quality LED won’t function correctly. We can provide the firmware EPROMs if you need them.
Will the UV topcoat degrade over time?
No. The UV-resistant topcoat is formulated to resist degradation from UV exposure. In our accelerated aging tests (1,000 hours of UV exposure), the topcoat showed no yellowing or cracking. The underlying acrylic layer remained intact. The board will outlast the cabinet it’s installed in.
Can I use this board with the long-haul fiber boards?
The NFLA1C1C is a link adapter—it terminates and conditions signals for standard Mark IV fiber links. It doesn’t change the wavelength or protocol. If your fiber plant is standard multimode (62.5/125µm), the adapter will work. If you’re using long-haul single-mode boards with different wavelengths, the adapter won’t help. It’s transparent to the signal—it just conditions it.
Can I hot-swap this board?
No. Mark IV backplanes are not hot-swappable. Power down the cabinet, lock out the breaker, and wait 60 seconds before removing or installing the board.
What’s your warranty and lead time?
We stock the NFLA1C1C in limited quantities. Lead time is 1-2 business days. We offer a 1-year warranty. We test every board with a 24-hour burn-in and a diagnostic verification. The test report is included.
Is this board compatible with the Mark VIe?
No. This board is for Mark IV systems only. The backplane architecture is different.
