What’s the difference between the NFIB1D1B and the base NFIB?

What’s “adaptive equalization” and why does it matter?
Adaptive equalization is a signal processing technique that compensates for fiber dispersion and distortion. Over long fiber runs, the optical signal can become distorted—pulses spread out and overlap. Adaptive equalization adjusts the receiver’s response to compensate, improving the signal integrity and allowing longer or more degraded fiber runs. This is particularly useful if your fiber runs are approaching the maximum length or if the fiber is aging.
What’s the “Signal Quality” LED?
The Signal Quality LED indicates the integrity of the fiber optic signal passing through the interface. The board monitors the signal-to-noise ratio, the amplitude of the incoming optical signal, and the output of the adaptive equalizer. If the signal quality is good, the LED is green. If it’s marginal, it turns amber. If it’s poor, it turns red. This gives you early warning of degrading fiber or connectors.
Do I need to upgrade my DMP firmware for the enhanced diagnostics?
The enhanced diagnostics require DMP firmware v3.5 or later. If you’re running an older firmware version, the board will still work, but the diagnostic features won’t be available. We can provide the firmware EPROMs for the upgrade if needed.
Can I use this board with the newer long-haul fiber boards?
It depends on the configuration. The 1D1B was designed for the standard fiber system. It may not be compatible with long-haul boards that use different wavelengths. Check your system configuration before mixing board types.
Can I hot-swap this board?
No. Mark IV backplanes are not hot-swappable. Power down the cabinet, lock out the breaker, and wait 60 seconds before removing or installing the board.
