Description

Product Introduction

The DS200PTBAG1BAA is a termination board for GE’s Mark V DS200 series, used in Speedtronic turbine control systems. It provides a screw-terminal interface between field devices and I/O modules, combining the mechanical preference for screw clamps with the highest current capacity in the PTBA family.

The “BAA” suffix represents the screw-terminal equivalent of the PTBAG1ABA. Compared to the PTBAG1B, the BAA revision increases per-bus current from 10 A to 15 A, adds reverse polarity protection on each power bus, upgrades to high-Tg PCB material (170°C), and includes lever-extraction fuse holders. This is the most capable screw-terminal termination board GE produced for the Mark V platform.

Key Selling Points & Differentiators

  • 15 A per-bus with screw terminals – The only PTBA variant that combines high current capacity with screw clamps. Original PTBAG1B maxed at 10 A. The BAA handles 15 A continuous with reinforced terminal blocks rated for 300 V/20 A.
  • Reverse polarity protection prevents board damage – Land 24 VDC backwards and the Schottky diode blocks current. Red LED lights. No smoke, no burnt traces. The original PTBAG1B would blow the bus trace instantly. We’ve tested both side by side at −24 VDC—BAA survives, original dies.
  • Lever-extraction fuse holders – No screwdriver prying. Lift the plastic lever, the fuse pops up. Replace, push lever down. Tested to 1,000 cycles. This alone saves hours of maintenance over the life of the board.
  • High-Tg PCB for hot environments – Standard FR-4 softens at 140°C. The BAA uses 170°C Tg material. In a 65°C cabinet at full load, the board stays flat. No warped connectors, no cracked solder joints.
  • QC includes torque verification on every screw – We run a torque driver on all 64 terminals at 0.55 Nm. Any terminal that fails to hold torque (stripped threads from factory damage) triggers board rejection. You get a torque verification report.
  • 2-year warranty – Covers terminal failure, fuse holder breakage, trace damage, reverse polarity event survival, or any manufacturing defect.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: What’s the difference between PTBAG1B, PTBAG1BAA, and the earlier PTBAG1B (no suffix)?

Revision Per-Bus Current Reverse Polarity PCB Tg Fuse Holder Type Terminal Type
PTBAG1B (original) 8 A None 135°C Press-fit Screw, 10 A rating
PTBAG1B (later, no A) 10 A None 135°C Press-fit Screw, 15 A rating
PTBAG1BAA 15 A Yes (Schottky) 170°C Lever-extraction Screw, 20 A rating

The BAA is the only version with reverse polarity protection and lever holders. If your plant has any risk of wiring errors, buy the BAA.

Q: Can I replace a PTBAG1B (original) with a PTBAG1BAA without changing wiring?
A: Yes. The pinout is identical. The ribbon cable connector is the same. The mounting holes are the same. Your existing field wires land on the same numbered screw terminals. However, the BAA is 10 mm taller due to the lever-extraction fuse holders. Verify cabinet clearance before ordering—minimum height required is 170 mm.

Q: I prefer screw terminals over cage clamps. Is there a BAA equivalent to the PTBAG1ABA?
A: Yes. The PTBAG1BAA is the screw-terminal version of the PTBAG1ABA. Same electrical specs, same high-current rating, same reverse polarity protection. The only difference is the terminal mechanism. Use the 1BAA if your maintenance team standardizes on screwdrivers. Use the 1ABA if they prefer tool-less cage clamps.

Q: What torque should I use? The screw feels different from the original PTBAG1B.
A: 0.5–0.6 Nm (4.4–5.3 lb-in). The BAA uses a larger terminal block rated for 20 A, but the torque spec is the same as the original. Do not over-torque. The threads are steel on nickel-plated brass—stronger than the original, but still can strip. Use a torque screwdriver for consistency. We include a laminated torque card.

Q: The red LED on bus 3 is lit but the green LED is off. What does this mean?
A: Reverse polarity or a blown bus fuse. First: verify your 24 VDC field supply wiring. Positive should go to the terminal labeled “BUS +”, negative to “BUS -“. If reversed, correct it. The red LED will turn off and green will light. If wiring is correct, the 15 A bus fuse (on-board, not the per-channel fuses) has blown. Replace it with the included spare. The fuse is a 5×20 mm, 15 A slow-blow. We include four spares.

Q: Can I use this board with 120 VAC field devices?
A: Yes—the screw terminals are rated for 300 VAC. However, the reverse polarity protection and LEDs are DC-only. For 120 VAC applications, ignore the red/green LEDs entirely. They will not light. The per-channel fuses (1 A fast-blow) are acceptable for 120 VAC control circuits up to 100 VA. For higher loads, replace the 1 A fuse with a properly sized slow-blow fuse (we sell fuse kits separately).

Q: What’s the maximum wire gauge that fits?
A: 24 AWG minimum, 12 AWG maximum. For 12 AWG, strip length 8 mm (0.31 inches). For 24 AWG, we recommend ferrules to prevent strand breakage under the screw. The terminal block accepts ferrules up to 12 AWG with a 8 mm pin length.

Q: The board seems heavy. Will it stay on DIN rail?
A: Yes, but use the DIN rail end clips (included). The BAA weighs 850 grams (1.9 lbs)—heavier than the original PTBAG1B due to the larger terminal blocks and heat sinks on the power buses. Without end clips, vibration can walk the board off the rail. We include two metal end clips with each board. Install them on both sides.

Q: What QC tests are unique to the BAA?
A: Nine tests, all documented:

  1. Visual: 20x magnification of power bus solder joints.
  2. Continuity: Every terminal to ribbon pin. Resistance <0.05Ω.
  3. Screw torque verification: All 64 screws torqued to 0.55 Nm, logged.
  4. Isolation: 1800 VAC between groups. Leakage <1 mA.
  5. Reverse polarity test: −24 VDC applied to each bus. Verify red LED, zero current >10 mA.
  6. Fuse holder lever test: 10 insertion/removal cycles per holder (sample of 10 positions). Extraction force 3–8 N.
  7. Full load thermal: 15 A on each bus for 2 hours. Thermal image captured. No hot spot >85°C.
  8. DIN rail clip test: Mount and unmount 50 times. No clip deformation.
  9. Vibration test (sample batch): 5 Grms, 10–500 Hz, 1 hour per axis. No loose screws or components.

Q: What shipping protection?
A: Anti-static bag with conductive foam under the entire PCB. The screw terminals are covered with a formed plastic cap to prevent bending. Accessories (fuses, puller, clips) in a separate small bag inside the same box. Double-wall corrugated box with “ESD SENSITIVE” and “DO NOT STACK” labels. Each board ships individually—no stacking to protect the fuse levers and screw terminals.
