Description

Product Introduction

The DS200PCCAG2ACB takes the faster G2A processor and adds moisture protection. The standard G2A dies when humidity condenses on the FPU pins. This board keeps calculating through the wet season.

The “CB” suffix gives you the same G2A hardware (25MHz 68EC030, 2MB RAM, external FPU) with a single coat of acrylic conformal coating (about 25µm). What’s different from the full-ABB version? The CB uses standard-temperature components (0°C to 55°C) but adds humidity tolerance up to 95% non-condensing. For indoor cabinets in coastal plants, paper mills, or any site where the AC drips, this board outlasts the standard G2A by about 4:1. To be blunt, the G2A’s FPU is sensitive to moisture—the 68-pin PLCC socket traps humidity. The CB coating doesn’t seal the socket completely, but it reduces the failure rate from “when” to “if.”

Compatible Replacement Models

✅ Drop-in Replacement: DS200PCCAG2A
Standard version without conformal coating. Same pinout. Swaps directly. Use only in dry, climate-controlled environments.

✅ Drop-in Replacement: DS200PCCAG2ABB
Full environmental version (triple coat, wide-temp -20°C to 60°C). Same pinout. Swaps directly. Better for cold or condensing environments. Price is about 50% higher than CB.

⚠️ Software Compatible: DS200PCCAG5CB
Third-generation board with conformal coating (4MB RAM, faster FPU). Same pinout. Requires program recompilation if your code expects specific G2A memory timings. Estimate 4-8 hours.

❌ Hardware Incompatible: DS200PCCAG1ACB
First-generation board (16MHz, 1MB RAM, no FPU). Same pinout but different performance profile. Your program may exceed timing limits. Test before deploying.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How do I verify the CB coating is intact around the FPU socket?
The FPU socket (U12, a PLCC68) is the critical area. Inspect with a 10x loupe. Look at the four corners of the socket. Genuine CB boards have a continuous film of coating from the PCB up to the edge of the socket body. If you see gaps or cracks, moisture will wick under the socket. Touch up with acrylic coating (MG Chemicals 422B) using a fine brush. Pay special attention to the corner nearest the battery holder—that’s where flex cracks first appear.

My CB board works fine at room temperature but crashes when the AC kicks on and humidity drops. What’s wrong?
That’s electrostatic discharge (ESD), not humidity. When the AC turns on, airflow across the board generates static charge. The conformal coating insulates the PCB but not the FPU socket pins. The FPU’s clock input is sensitive. Add a ground strap from the board’s mounting hole to the rack chassis. Use a 1MΩ resistor in series (standard ESD grounding). We’ve seen this at three sites with new HVAC systems. The CB coating didn’t cause the problem—it just didn’t prevent it.

What’s the typical failure mode on the CB board?
Coating delamination around the FPU socket after thermal cycling. The G2A’s FPU runs hot (about 55°C at full load). The acrylic coating expands and contracts at a different rate than the PCB. After about 5,000 thermal cycles (typical in a plant that shuts down weekly), the coating lifts from the PCB around the socket. Moisture then causes FPU pin corrosion. Prevention: add a small heatsink to the FPU (12mm x 12mm, self-adhesive). Lower operating temperature reduces thermal cycling stress. We sell the heatsink for $4.

Can I run a CB board in a cabinet that sees freezing temperatures?
The CB board is rated 0°C to 55°C. At -5°C, the coating becomes brittle. We’ve tested CB boards at -10°C. The coating cracks, especially around the backplane connector. The board may still function, but the cracks will admit moisture when temperatures rise above freezing. If you need freezing tolerance, buy the ABB version (rated to -20°C with more flexible coating). The CB version is not suitable for unheated enclosures.

How do I clean a CB board that has visible contamination on the coating?
Use isopropyl alcohol (91% or higher) and a soft brush. Do not use acetone, toluene, or chlorinated solvents—they will dissolve the acrylic coating. Wipe gently. Do not scrub. The coating is only 25µm thick (about the thickness of a human hair). Aggressive scrubbing will remove it. After cleaning, inspect for bare spots. Touch up as needed.

What’s the lead time for a DS200PCCAG2ACB from surplus stock?
1-3 weeks. The CB variant is moderately common—about 15% of G2A boards shipped with conformal coating. We maintain about 35 units in stock. Price is typically 15-25% higher than the standard G2A. For humid environments, it’s a worthwhile upgrade.

Do you offer a coating service for standard G2A boards?
Yes. Send us your standard G2A board. We clean it, mask the backplane connector and FPU socket (we use a special high-temperature tape that leaves the socket accessible but protected), apply two coats of acrylic (50µm total—better than original), and cure for 24 hours. Cost is 150 per board. Turnaround is 5 business days. We also add a heatsink to the FPU for an extra 10. Pass rate is about 95%—some boards have existing contamination that prevents coating adhesion. We will notify you before proceeding if we find issues.
