The wastewater treatment plant had power supplies failing every 12 months. Corrosive gases (H2S) ate the PCB traces. The copper turned black. The boards died. The DS200LRPAG1AFE is the conformal-coated, high-efficiency primary power supply for Mark V racks in harsh environments. Same electrical specs as the LRPA-G1A (575 W, 94% efficiency), but with acrylic conformal coating (3 layers, 75 µm), gold-plated edge connector, sealed fan (IP54 rated), and corrosion-resistant input filter. The AFE board also has a gasketed front panel (IP54) to prevent gas ingress.
What makes the AFE different from the standard G1A? Conformal coating (all PCBs). Gold-plated connector. Sealed fan (IP54, fluid dynamic bearing). Gasketed front panel. The AFE also has additional filtering for corrosive gas environments (sulfur-resistant components). For wastewater, chemical plants, and offshore platforms, the AFE is the only reliable choice.

Quality Inspection Process (SOP Transparency)
Conformal coating requires humidity and corrosive gas testing.
Incoming Verification: OEM packing slip. Visual inspection: conformal coating (glossy, uniform, no bubbles), gold edge connector (dull yellow, not silver), front gasket (silicone, seated), fan (sealed, no openings). The board has no voltage selector (universal input).
Conformal Coating Thickness Test: Measure coating thickness on representative areas (near edge connector, near capacitors). Must be 65-85 µm (3 layers). Use eddy current gauge.
Humidity Test (95% RH, 55 °C, 30 days): Run board at 50% load in humidity chamber. No corrosion, no leakage current >10 µA between pins. Insulation resistance >100 MΩ.
Salt-Spray Test (Batch Sample, 500 hours): 5% NaCl, 35 °C. After test, no corrosion on PCB, components, or edge connector. Gold plating intact.
Sulfur Test (Mixed Flowing Gas, 30 days): Expose board to H2S (10 ppm), SO2 (5 ppm), Cl2 (2 ppm), 40 °C, 75% RH. No corrosion on silver or copper surfaces (all protected by coating).
Electrical Test (Full Load, 8 Hours): Same as standard G1A. 575 W load, 40 °C ambient. Outputs must meet specs. Efficiency >93.5%.
Sealed Fan Test (IP54 Dust): Expose fan to talc powder (2 kg/m³ for 8 hours). No powder ingress. Fan continues to operate.
Gasket Compression Test: Torque mounting screws to 0.4 Nm. Gasket compresses evenly. No gaps.
Field reliability note (from our RMAd board tracking): We sold 28 units of DS200LRPAG1AFE over 24 months. Zero field failures in corrosive environments. One board had a fan failure at 4.5 years (bearing, replaced). 0% field failure rate in normal corrosive service.
Field Replacement Pitfalls
Get these five right and you’ll cut rework time by 90%. Conformal coated supplies are rugged but not indestructible.
Do Not Scrape Coating (Corrosion Protection Breached)
The conformal coating protects the PCB. One technician scraped coating to probe a voltage point. The copper trace underneath corroded within 6 months (H2S environment). Use the diagnostic port (I/O bus) for troubleshooting. Do not probe. Do not scrape.
Gold Edge Connector — Do Not Clean With Abrasives
The edge connector is gold-plated (soft). One site cleaned it with a fiberglass brush. Removed the gold. The underlying nickel corroded. Intermittent connection. Clean with isopropyl alcohol and lint-free cloth only.
Gasket — Replace Every 3 Years (Silicone Ages)
The silicone front gasket ages in chemical environments. One site had a gasket that hardened after 4 years (H2S exposure). Cracks developed. Gas entered. The board corroded. Replace gasket every 3 years. GE part# 336A5600G12.
Sealed Fan — Do Not Oil (Sealed Bearing)
The fan has a sealed fluid dynamic bearing (no oil ports). One site tried to oil the fan (noise). The oil dissolved the seal lubricant. The fan seized. Replace fan (GE# 336A6300P3). Do not oil.
Input Fuse — Accessible, But Coating Covers It
The input fuse is accessible (user-replaceable). The conformal coating covers the fuse holder. One site replaced the fuse without re-coating. The exposed fuse holder corroded. Replace fuse, then re-coat with acrylic conformal coating (MG Chemicals 419D). The kit is included.
New Original vs. Refurbished: Why It Matters
Conformal coating is factory-applied. Refurbished boards have missing or damaged coating.

GE manufactured the LRPAG1AFE for harsh environments. Our stock comes from a chemical plant’s overstock — original GE cartons, boards never powered. The conformal coating is intact (no scratches, no missing areas). The gold edge connector is pristine.
