Description
Product Introduction
The control room had dim lighting. Operators struggled to read the standard LDCC screen (2.5″ diagonal). They leaned in. They squinted. They made mistakes. The plant installed DS200LDCCH1 boards. 4.7″ diagonal display. 240×128 pixels. 1,000 nits backlight. The operators can read the screen from across the room. The error rate dropped. The plant manager bought 20 more.
The DS200LDCCH1 is the high-visibility operator interface for Mark V drives. It has a 240×128 pixel graphic LCD (4.7″ diagonal — double the size of standard LDCC). The display has 1,000 nits backlight (daylight readable, dimmable for night). The keypad is backlit (amber, adjustable). The H1 board is physically larger (occupies 2 rack slots) and has its own power supply (24 V external, not backplane). It’s for control rooms, outdoor kiosks, and any application where visibility matters.
What makes the H1 different from the LDCCG1A? Larger display (4.7″ vs 2.5″). Higher resolution (240×128 vs 128×64). Higher brightness (1,000 nits vs 400 nits). External power (24 V vs backplane). Two-slot occupancy. The H1 costs more (1,200 vs 600). For operators with aging eyes or poor lighting, the H1 is worth it.

Quality Inspection Process (SOP Transparency)
High-visibility display requires brightness and resolution testing.
Incoming Verification: OEM packing slip. Visual inspection: large LCD (4.7″, no dead pixels), keypad (32 keys, backlit), Ethernet port (optional). The board occupies 2 slots — verify mounting bracket.
Brightness Test (1,000 nits): Measure with light meter at 100% backlight — must be 1,000 nits ±10%. At 0% backlight, display must be readable in dark room (ambient light reflection).
Keypad Backlight Test (Amber): Adjust from 0% to 100%. Even illumination, no bright spots.
Display Resolution Test (240×128): Upload test pattern (grid, text, grayscale). No dead pixels, grayscale visible.
Parameter Programming Test: Read/write parameters. Same as LDCC.
Data Logging Test (5,000 events): Generate events, verify storage, timestamps (RTC).
Ethernet Test (Optional): Connect to network, ping response, Modbus TCP (if enabled).
Power Supply Test (24 V External): Supply 19.2-28.8 V. Board must operate. Power consumption 300 mA typical.
Temperature Test (55 °C Ambient): Run for 4 hours. Display readable (backlight derates to 800 nits). Keypad functional.
Field reliability note (from our RMAd board tracking): We sold 15 units of DS200LDCCH1 over 24 months. One field failure — backlight driver failed (LEDs dim, 200 nits at 100%). 6.7% failure rate.
Field Replacement Pitfalls
Get these five right and you’ll cut rework time by 90%. The H1 is larger and has external power.
External Power Supply — 24 V DC, Not Backplane
❗ The H1 requires external 24 V DC (300 mA). It does not use backplane power. One site installed the H1 and connected nothing to the power terminals. The board didn’t power up. They thought it was dead. Connect 24 V DC to terminals 1 (+) and 2 (-) on the back of the enclosure. The backplane provides communication only.
Two-Slot Occupancy — Plan Rack Layout
The H1 occupies 2 slots (wider bezel). One site had a 12-slot rack. They installed the H1 in slots 1-2, leaving 10 slots for I/O. Acceptable. Another site had an 8-slot rack. The H1 took 2 slots, leaving 6 slots — not enough I/O. Plan your rack layout. The H1 is for racks with spare slots or dedicated HMI racks.
Ethernet Option — Requires Separate Power (PoE Not Supported)
The Ethernet option (if present) requires separate IP configuration. One site connected Ethernet but forgot to configure the IP address. The H1 didn’t communicate via Ethernet. Use RS-485 (backplane) for reliable communication. Ethernet is for data logging only (not control).
Backlight Brightness — 1,000 nits, But Derates at High Temp
At 55 °C ambient, backlight derates to 800 nits (still bright). One site had 60 °C cabinet (above spec). Backlight dropped to 600 nits (still readable, but marginal). Add cooling. The LED driver reduces current to protect LEDs.
Mounting — Use Both Screws (Heavy Board)
The H1 is heavier than standard keypads (1.2 kg). One site used only 2 of 4 mounting screws. The board vibrated loose. The backplane connector fretted. Intermittent communication. Use all 4 screws. Torque to 0.4 Nm.
New Original vs. Refurbished: Why It Matters
The H1’s large display and backlight wear. Refurbished boards have dimmer displays or dead pixels.
What “New Original (New Surplus)” means on this model:
GE manufactured the LDCCH1 in limited quantities. Our stock comes from a control room integrator’s overstock — original GE cartons, boards never powered. The large LCD is fresh (no dead pixels). The backlight is new (1,000 nits).
Refurbished risk in plain terms:
One refurbished H1 we tested had 6 dead pixels (stuck white). The seller’s photo was low resolution. Another refurbished board had a dim backlight (600 nits at 100%). The seller claimed “bright enough.” In a control room with ambient light, it was marginal.
Real cost of a refurbished failure:
A dim display in a control room causes operator eye strain. Mistakes happen. One mis-entered setpoint can scrap a batch (5,000-10,000). A refurbished H1 sells for 500-800 online. Our new surplus price is 1,100. The difference is 300-600. One batch scrap pays for the delta.
What we provide as proof:
- Original GE carton
- Display test (240×128, no dead pixels)
- Brightness test (1,000 nits ±10%)
- Keypad backlight test (0-100%)
- Data logging test (5,000 events)
- RTC battery fresh (CR2032)
- 12-month warranty
Our price sits roughly 35% below GE’s last list price ($1,700) and about 60% above typical refurbished listings. The delta pays for large LCD quality, backlight brightness, and pixel warranty.
Performance Benchmarks & Test Results
Test environment: Mark V controller v7.6, 24 V external supply, 25 °C ambient.
Display brightness (100% backlight): 980 nits (spec: 1,000 nits). Acceptable.
Display brightness (55 °C ambient): 810 nits (derated). Still bright.
Display resolution: 240×128 pixels. Readable from 3 meters.
Keypad backlight range: 0-100%, even illumination.
Parameter read time: 100 ms (same as LDCC).
Data logging capacity: 5,000 events. At 100 events/hour = 50 hours (2 days). At 10 events/hour = 500 hours (20 days).
RTC accuracy: ±1 minute per year (25 °C).
Power consumption (24 V): 290-310 mA (7.0-7.4 W).
Temperature rise (55 °C ambient): Internal 68 °C. Backlight driver at 72 °C.
Field reliability note (from our RMAd board tracking): 15 units sold, 1 failure (backlight driver). Refurbished boards: tested 5 units, 2 had dead pixels, 2 had dim backlights (<700 nits), 1 had failed backlight driver, 0 passed. 0% acceptable. Large displays are fragile. Buy new surplus.
