Description

Product Introduction

The GE DS200DMCAG1AGB is an extended temperature analog combination I/O module for the Mark V Speedtronic turbine control system. It combines -20 to 65°C operation with acrylic conformal coating for the harshest environments – cold, wet, and corrosive. This module is the most rugged analog combo I/O board in the Mark V line.

Core advantage: The AGB revision protects against freezing condensation and salt fog simultaneously. Standard extended-temp boards (AEA) survive cold but fail after 12-18 months in coastal environments due to PCB corrosion. Coated standard-temp boards survive corrosion but fail below -5°C. The AGB does both. Field data from North Sea offshore platforms (winter -15°C, salt spray) shows AGB boards achieve 8+ years mean time between failures.

Key Selling Points & Differentiators

  • Extended temp + conformal coating – Only Mark V analog combo board with both. AEA (extended temp) has no coating. ABB (coated) is 0-55°C only.
  • Cold-flex acrylic coating – Remains flexible to -40°C. Standard acrylic cracks at -20°C. Prevents condensation damage.
  • Salt fog resistant – Passes 96-hour ASTM B117 test. For offshore and coastal installations.
  • Maintains accuracy at -20°C – Same ±0.2%/0.3% as AEA. Coating does not degrade thermal performance.
  • UV-verified coating – Acrylic fluoresces blue-green. Inspected for pinholes after cold cycling.
  • Cold start guaranteed – Every board powers up and reads inputs at -20°C after 1 hour soak.
  • 30-day warranty with cross-ship – Coating crack or cold start failure? We send replacement same day.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: What is the difference between DS200DMCAG1AEA (extended temp, uncoated) and DS200DMCAG1AGB (extended temp, coated)?
A: Conformal coating. AEA: no coating (dry cold environments only). AGB: acrylic cold-flex coating for wet cold environments (freezing rain, condensation, salt fog). Electrical specifications are identical. For arctic dry cold (Siberia, interior Alaska), AEA is sufficient. For coastal cold or offshore (North Sea, Newfoundland), use AGB.

Q: What is cold-flex acrylic coating?
A: Standard acrylic (Humiseal 1B31) has glass transition temperature (Tg) of -20°C. Below -20°C, it becomes brittle and cracks. Cold-flex acrylic (Humiseal 1B73) has Tg of -40°C. It remains flexible down to -40°C. The AGB uses 1B73.

Q: How do you test the cold-flex coating on refurbished AGB boards?
A: We place the board in a temperature chamber at -40°C for 4 hours, then inspect under UV light for cracks (especially around op-amp pins). We also perform insulation resistance test: 500 V DC between adjacent input terminals at 95% RH. Coated boards must measure >100 GΩ. About 10% of incoming AGB boards fail – coating cracks at -40°C. Those are stripped and re-coated.

Q: I see an AGB board with a red dot and a blue dot. What does that mean?
A: Red dot = salt fog tested (96 hours). Blue dot = extended cold test at -40°C (spec is -20°C). Boards with both dots have passed the most extreme qualification. We charge an extra $45 for double-dot boards. For North Sea platforms (cold + salt spray), we recommend double-dot.

Q: My AGB board works at room temperature but inputs drift at -15°C. What failed?
A: The input op-amp may be commercial grade (not wide-temp) or the coating is lifting, causing leakage. Inspect under UV for coating cracks. If coating is intact, the op-amp may have been replaced with wrong grade. Repair cost is $115. We replace all 4 input op-amps with wide-temp grade and re-coat. Turnaround is 7 days.

Q: Does the conformal coating affect analog accuracy at cold temperatures?
A: Minimal – acrylic coating has low dielectric absorption. At -20°C, the coating adds less than 0.01% additional error. The AGB spec accounts for this. For high-precision applications (0.05% required), use DMCAG1A-AGB (18-bit inputs, 16-bit outputs, coated extended temp) – special order.

Q: How do I identify a counterfeit DS200DMCAG1AGB?
A: Genuine boards have “DMCAG1AGB” printed on the edge connector label with a snowflake + droplet symbol. Under UV light (365 nm), the coating fluoresces blue-green with a slight haze (cold-flex additive). Counterfeits use standard acrylic (cracks at -20°C) or no coating. Also check the op-amps: genuine uses OPA4277 wide-temp (-40 to 125°C). Fakes use LM324 (0-70°C). We UV-inspect and photograph every board.

Q: Can I field-coat my existing AEA board to make it an AGB?
A: We strongly advise against it. Cold-flex acrylic requires precise curing (24 hours at 25°C, 50% RH). Field curing is inconsistent. Send us your board for professional coating ($65). We strip, clean, coat with cold-flex, and cure.

Q: Does the coating affect the 4-20 mA external resistors at low temperature?
A: No – the external resistors are not coated (they are on the field terminal block). Use low-temp coefficient resistors (25 ppm/°C or better). We sell resistor kits with matched low-temp resistors for $10.

Q: What is the shelf life of AGB boards in coastal storage?
A: Cold-flex acrylic does not degrade in storage if kept in anti-static bags with desiccant at 10-40°C. We have shipped AGB boards stored for 5 years with no coating issues. For long-term storage in coastal areas, keep in sealed bag with silica gel. We include desiccant with each order.

Q: Do you offer a version with higher precision (18-bit inputs) and AGB features?
A: Yes – special order DS200DMCAG1BGB (18-bit inputs, 16-bit outputs, extended temp -20 to 65°C, cold-flex coating). Lead time is 21-28 days. Cost adds $145. For precision cold-weather offshore applications (LNG plants, subsea controls), this combination is recommended. Contact us for details.
