The GE 531X300CCHATM3 is the 300-series chassis with a smart thermal management system—a temperature sensor on the backplane controls the fan speed, running them slowly when the chassis is cool and ramping up only when needed. It’s quieter, more reliable, and more energy-efficient than a fixed-speed chassis.
The “ATM3” suffix tells the story: “A” is the standard filter, “T” indicates the thermal throttle feature, and “M3″ gives you the 92mm fans (65 CFM) with Molex Mini-Fit connectors. The thermal management system has a thermistor on the backplane, a small control board that monitors the temperature, and a PWM driver that adjusts the fan speed. The fans run at 30% speed (about 28 CFM) when the chassis is below 30°C, 60% speed (45 CFM) between 30°C and 45°C, and 100% speed (65 CFM) above 45°C. Q: Can I adjust the thermal throttle thresholds?
A: No. The thresholds are fixed by the hardware (30°C and 45°C). GE designed the system to be simple and reliable—no user adjustments. If you want custom thresholds, you’d need to modify the control board, which is not recommended. The standard thresholds work well for most applications.
Q: What’s the typical fan speed in a normal room-temperature environment?
