Not every chassis needs a big power supply. The GE 531X300CCHALG2 is the 300-series chassis designed for logic-only applications—systems that don’t require the high-current 5V and 24V rails of the standard 212-series power supply. Instead, it has a dedicated logic-level power module that provides clean, low-current power for control boards, communication cards, and feedback modules. It’s for small, low-power systems or for chassis that are powered by an external supply.
The “ALG2” suffix tells the story: “A” is the standard filter, “L” indicates the logic-only power configuration, and “G2″ is the revision with the enhanced logic power module and the 80mm fans. The logic power module is a compact, 50W unit that provides 5V at 5A, ±15V at 1A, and 24V at 1A. It fits in the same bay as the 212-series PSU but has a different connector and mounting bracket. The chassis includes the standard A-filter and the same backplane (531X213D10ABG1). The fans are 80mm (45 CFM), which is sufficient for the reduced thermal load. The chassis is lighter and shallower than the standard AC chassis—about 15 lbs empty and 13.5” deep. The logic power module is field-replaceable (it slides out like a board). - 531X300CCHAAM5 (standard chassis): The ALG2 is the logic-only version of the standard chassis. If you don’t need the high-current 212-series PSU, the ALG2 is a direct replacement. The backplane and slot spacing are identical. Move your boards over—the logic power module provides the same voltage rails, just at lower current.

- None. The power module is a dumb power supply. It doesn’t communicate with the backplane. No firmware, no configuration. No recompile needed.

- 531X300CCHALG2 with a 212-series power supply: The 212-series PSU won’t fit in the logic power module bay—the mounting is different, and the connector is different. You can’t upgrade the ALG2 to a high-current PSU later. If you need high-current, buy the AM5 chassis.
- 531X300CCHALG2 with high-current boards (e.g., boards with 16 relays all active): The logic power module provides only 1A on the 24V rail. If your boards draw more than 1A total, the power module will overload and shut down. Check your board’s power consumption before using the ALG2.
- 531X300CCHALG2 with a gate driver board that requires high 5V current: The 5V rail is limited to 5A. Some gate driver boards can draw 3A each. If you have two gate driver boards, you’ll exceed the 5A limit. The ALG2 is for low-power control and communication boards, not gate drivers.
- 531X300CCHALG2 in a rack depth under 14.5″: The chassis is 14.5″ deep with the rear shroud. If your cabinet is shallower, remove the rear shroud (drops depth to 13.5″).

Q: What’s the difference between the ALG2 and the standard AM5 chassis?
A: The power supply. The AM5 has a bay for the 212-series PSU (250W, 5V @ 15A, 24V @ 5A). The ALG2 has a compact 50W logic power module (5V @ 5A, 24V @ 1A). The ALG2 is for systems with low power requirements—typically control-only applications without gate driver boards or high-relay-count I/O boards. It’s also lighter and cheaper than the AM5.
Q: Can I use the ALG2 with a 531X210DMCAGM1 gate driver board?
A: Possibly, but you need to check the current draw. The AGM1 draws about 2.5A on the 5V rail. The ALG2’s 5V rail is 5A, so you could power one AGM1, but not two. If you have a gate driver board, you’re likely using it for SCR firing. The ALG2 might work for a small system, but if you have multiple gate drivers, you need the AM5 chassis.
Q: The ALG2 has a smaller power module. Is it field-replaceable?

Q: The ALG2 has 80mm fans. Is that enough?
A: Yes. The ALG2’s thermal load is much lower than the AM5—the logic power module dissipates only about 10W, versus 35W for the 212-series PSU. The 80mm fans move 45 CFM each, which is more than adequate for the ALG2’s heat output. The ALG2 runs cooler and quieter than the AM5 chassis.
Q: Can I use the ALG2 with a 24V DC input instead of AC?
A: No. The ALG2 is AC-input only. The logic power module is an AC-to-DC converter. If you need DC input, you’d need the ADM chassis (531X300CCHADMx). The ALG2 doesn’t have a DC input option.
Q: The ALG2 has a power module that slides out. Is there a spare power module available?
A: Yes. The power module is part number 531X300LPM1. We stock them. If you want a spare for quick replacement, we recommend keeping one on the shelf. The module is a sealed unit—no field-repairable parts inside it. If it fails, you replace it.
Q: What’s the maximum number of boards I can put in the ALG2?
A: Physically, you can put 10 boards in the ALG2. But the limiting factor is power consumption. Each board has a specified current draw (5V and 24V). Add up the total current on the 5V rail and the 24V rail. If either exceeds the ALG2’s limits (5A on 5V, 1A on 24V), you need to remove some boards or move to an AM5 chassis. A typical control-only system with a logic board and a comms board might draw 2A on 5V and 0.3A on 24V—well within the ALG2’s limits.
