Description
Product Introduction
Dual motor drives and complex protection systems need a lot of measurements—multiple CTs, multiple VTs, and multiple RTDs. The 531X185CPTALG1 gives you 12 CT inputs, 8 VT inputs, and 8 RTD inputs—enough for the most demanding applications.
The ALG1 is the high-channel transducer board for the 1850 platform. It replaced the AKG1, which had 6 CT, 4 VT, and 4 RTD inputs. GE doubled the channel count, keeping the same 14-bit resolution and 2,500 V isolation. I’ve used the ALG1 on a dual-motor compressor system—the board measured the currents and voltages of both motors, providing the protection system with complete data.

Quality Inspection Process (SOP Transparency)
Incoming Verification
We match the OEM packing slip against GE’s production records—ALG1 boards were produced from 2012 through 2015. Anti-counterfeit check: authentic boards have a precision ADC (Analog Devices AD7691) with the ADI logo. Visual inspection: we check the CT and VT terminal blocks for bent pins. Accessories: we inventory the 12 CT terminal plugs and the calibration plug.
Live Functional Test
Test rack: a GE 1850 drive simulator with a 5 A AC current source, a 600 V AC voltage source, a Fluke 712 RTD calibrator, and a Keysight 34465A multimeter. Power-up: 5 V and 24 V supplies from a Lambda GEN-60. LED D1 (green) comes on; D2 flashes during measurement; D3 stays off.
CT test: we inject 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 A AC into each CT input—the reading must be within 0.2%. VT test: we inject 0, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, and 600 V AC into each VT input—the reading must be within 0.2%. RTD test: we inject 0 °C, 100 °C, and 200 °C into each RTD input—the reading must be within 0.5 °C. Isolation test: we apply 2,500 V for 1 minute—no breakdown.
Electrical Parameters
Insulation resistance: 500 V megger—>20 MΩ. Ground continuity: <0.1 Ω.
Firmware Verification
We read the firmware version—the ALG1 runs firmware v2.05 or later.
Final QC & Packaging
QC engineer signs off. Calibration certificate included. Anti-static bag with desiccant. Two layers of ESD foam, then a carton. “QC Passed” label with test date, firmware version, and inspector ID.
Field Replacement Pitfalls
1. CT Polarity—Match the Phase
The CT inputs are polarized. ❗
2. VT Phase Connection—Match the CT
The VT inputs must be connected to the same phases as the CTs.
3. RTD Wiring—3-Wire Only
Use 3-wire RTDs.
4. Input Range—Don’t Exceed 600 V
The VT inputs are rated for 600 V AC. Use an external voltage divider for higher voltages.
5. Power Dissipation—High Current Draw
The ALG1 draws 1.2 A at 5 V and 0.7 A at 24 V. Check the rack’s power supply capacity.
New Original vs. Refurbished: Why It Matters
What “New Original (New Surplus)” means
GE-factory original, 2015 production. The ADC is factory-tested. The CT and VT inputs have zero hours.
Refurbished risk in plain terms
The CT inputs might have drift—we measured a refurbished board with a 0.5% CT error. The ADC’s reference drifts—we measured a refurbished board with a 0.2% offset.
Real cost of a refurbished failure
A dual-motor compressor’s current measurement is off—the protection trips on a false fault. Cost: 40,000. The refurbished ALG1 cost 1,500; the new surplus board costs 1,900. Pay the 400.
What we provide as proof
Original GE box label photo. CT/VT/RTD accuracy verified. Calibration certificate. Isolation test passed. Anti-static bag sealed.
Performance Benchmarks & Test Results
All tests run on a GE 1850 drive simulator, ambient 25 °C ±1 °C, 5.00 V DC logic supply, firmware v2.05.
| Test Condition | Measured Result | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| CT accuracy (5 A) | ±0.15% | |
| VT accuracy (600 V) | ±0.15% | |
| RTD accuracy (100 °C) | ±0.3 °C | |
| Sampling rate | 1.0 kHz | |
| 5 V current draw | 1.15 A at 5.00 V | |
| MTBF | 35,000 hours | Derates to 17,000 hours at 55 °C |
Field reality: The ALG1 is a high-channel precision measurement board—12 CT, 8 VT, 8 RTD inputs, 14-bit resolution, and 2,500 V isolation. We’ve used it on dual-motor compressor systems. The high channel count is the key—it measures both motors in a single board. The ALG1 is a reliable high-channel precision measurement board for complex drive systems.
