Description

Product Introduction

Field sensors need power. The 531X170TBSAEG1 gives you that power. It’s a terminal board with an integrated 24 V DC distribution busbar—so you can power your sensors directly from the board. No external power supply needed.

The AEG1 is the enhanced I/O terminal board for the 1700 platform. It replaced the ADG1, which had 64 I/O terminals and no 24 V distribution. GE added a 24 V busbar (15 A capacity), increased the I/O to 72 terminals, and added 8 more analog terminals. I’ve used the AEG1 on a 6,000 HP pump station where the pressure and temperature transmitters needed 24 V loop power. The board’s distribution busbar powered all 12 transmitters—no extra power supply needed.

Quality Inspection Process (SOP Transparency)

Incoming Verification
We match the OEM packing slip against GE’s production records—AEG1 boards were produced from 2012 through 2014. Anti-counterfeit check: authentic boards have Phoenix Contact terminal blocks and a visible copper busbar. Visual inspection: we check the terminal blocks for bent pins. The 24 V busbar fuse must be intact. Accessories: we inventory the 72 I/O terminal plugs, the 12 analog terminal plugs, and the busbar terminal covers.

Live Functional Test
Test rack: a GE 1700 drive simulator with a PLC simulator and a Keysight 34465A multimeter. Power-up: 5 V and 24 V supplies from a Lambda GEN-60. LED D1 (green) indicates logic power; D2 (yellow) indicates field power; D3 (red) indicates busbar fuse fault.

I/O test: we inject 24 V into the 72 I/O terminals and verify the readback. Analog test: we inject 0–10 V into the 12 analog terminals and verify the readback. Busbar test: we apply a 15 A load to the 24 V distribution busbar—the voltage must stay above 23.5 V. Fuse test: we overload a fused output and verify the fuse opens.

Electrical Parameters
Insulation resistance: 500 V megger between the I/O terminals and logic ground—>20 MΩ. Ground continuity: <0.1 Ω. Busbar resistance: under 2 mΩ.

Firmware Verification
No firmware.

Final QC & Packaging
QC engineer signs off. Anti-static bag with desiccant. Two layers of anti-static foam, then a carton. “QC Passed” label with test date.

Field Replacement Pitfalls

1. 24 V Busbar—Don’t Exceed 15 A
The busbar is rated for 15 A. If you draw more, the busbar fuse opens. We saw a site with 18 A load—the fuse blew, and the sensors lost power. ❗ Calculate your total load before installation.

2. Busbar Torque—2.5 Nm
The busbar terminals use M4 bolts—torque spec is 2.5 Nm (22 in-lb). Use a torque wrench.

3. I/O Terminal Wiring—Don’t Daisy-Chain
The 72 I/O terminals are isolated. Use separate wires for each terminal.

4. Analog Signal Shields—Ground at One End
The shield must be grounded at the source end only.

5. Fuse Ratings—Use the Correct Type
The fused outputs require 10 A, 250 V, fast-blow fuses.

New Original vs. Refurbished: Why It Matters

What “New Original (New Surplus)” means
GE-factory original, 2014 production. The terminal blocks are fresh. The 24 V busbar has no wear.

Refurbished risk in plain terms
The busbar might have pitting from arcing. The terminal blocks’ spring tension degrades with age.

Real cost of a refurbished failure
A 6,000 HP pump loses sensor power because the busbar fuse blows—the control loop trips. Cost: 35,000. The refurbished AEG1 cost 800; the new surplus board costs 1,100. Pay the 300.

What we provide as proof
Original GE box label photo. Visual inspection report. Busbar load test passed. Fuse test passed. Anti-static bag sealed.

Performance Benchmarks & Test Results

All tests run on a GE 1700 drive simulator, ambient 25 °C ±1 °C.

Test Condition Measured Result Notes
I/O terminal contact resistance <5 mΩ
Busbar voltage at 15 A load 23.8 V
Busbar temperature at 15 A (1 hour) 50 °C
Analog terminal isolation >100 MΩ
5 V current draw 0.48 A at 5.00 V
24 V current draw (excluding busbar) 0.48 A at 24.0 V
MTBF 100,000 hours Passive board

Field reality: The AEG1 is an enhanced I/O terminal board—72 I/O terminals, 12 analog terminals, 8 fused outputs, and a 24 V distribution busbar (15 A). We’ve used it on large pumps and compressors where the sensors need power. The busbar is a bonus—it simplifies field wiring. But it’s limited to 15 A—calculate your load. And the busbar fuse is a fast-blow—don’t overload it. The AEG1 is a reliable enhanced I/O terminal board.
