Description

Product Introduction

The 531X111PSHAPG2 is the ultimate evolution of GE’s Mark V power supply platform—the highest specification, most feature-rich supply ever produced. It delivers 1500W with hardware load-sharing, remote voltage sensing, RS-485 diagnostics, and an enhanced data logger with 5000-event capacity. This is the supply you install when you need the highest reliability and the most comprehensive predictive maintenance capabilities available.

Compared to the 531X111PSHAPG1, the “G2” revision extends hold-up from 160ms to 170ms, expands the data logging memory from 1000 to 5000 events, and adds a USB port for convenient log downloading. The thermal management was also refined with improved airflow through the modular fan cartridge. The terminal assignment is identical—direct drop-in. No firmware changes required.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: What’s the main advantage of the PG2 over the PG1?
The PG2 expands the data logging capacity from 1000 to 5000 events—five times the storage. It also adds a USB port for direct log downloading (no need for a Modbus RTU master). The hold-up time was extended from 160ms to 170ms, and the inrush current was reduced from 28A to 27A. If you’re running a critical application with strict reliability requirements, the PG2’s expanded logging and USB download make predictive maintenance significantly easier.

Q: How does the USB log download work?
Connect a standard USB cable (Type A to Type B) from the PG2’s USB port to a laptop. The supply appears as a removable drive with a single file (log.csv). Open the file in Excel or a text editor to view the fault history. The log includes: timestamp, fault type, duration, voltage, current, and temperature. You can also clear the log via the USB interface. The blue “USB Active” LED flashes when the USB port is in use. GE’s Toolbox software can also read the log via USB.

Q: The Fault LED is red, but the DC OK LED is green. What’s happening?
Green DC OK means the 24V output is within spec. Red Fault indicates an internal warning—typically overtemperature (fan failure or blocked airflow) or an input voltage out of range (below 180VAC or above 265VAC). The PG2’s data logger will capture the fault event, which helps with troubleshooting. The USB port allows you to download the log quickly for analysis.

Q: The inrush current is 27A peak. Is that a concern for my branch breaker?
27A peak for 2ms is the lowest in the Mark V 1500W family and is within the tolerance of most 20A C-curve breakers. If you have multiple PG2s in a panel, the combined inrush of 54A may still trip a 30A breaker on startup. Use D-curve breakers or sequence the power-up. We recommend dedicated 30A branch circuits for each PG2.

Q: The Overload LED is amber. What does that mean?
Amber Overload LED indicates the supply is drawing more than its continuous rating (62.5A). At loads between 62.5A and 75A, it’ll light amber and continue running—but the output voltage may droop. If the load exceeds 75A, the supply enters foldback current limiting. The data logger will record the overload event. If you’re consistently seeing amber, add a second PG2 in parallel.

Q: Can I run two PG2 supplies in parallel for redundancy?
Yes—the PG2 has both OR-ing diodes and hardware load-sharing. Connect the DC outputs together (+24V to +24V, 0V to 0V), connect the load-share signal terminals together, connect the remote sense terminals together, connect the RS-485 diagnostic terminals together (daisy-chain), and feed the AC inputs from separate breakers. The supplies will share the load within ±1%. Each supply has its own data log, which helps identify which supply experienced a fault.

Q: Can I hot-swap the PG2 while the rack is powered?
The board supports hot-swapping when used in a redundant configuration (two supplies in parallel). In a single-supply configuration, pulling the supply will immediately shut down the entire rack. If you have redundant supplies, you can pull one—but only if the OR-ing diodes are present. When you insert a new supply, the remote sense, load-sharing, and diagnostic circuits will automatically re-balance.

Q: What’s the expected lifespan of the PG2?
The electrolytic capacitors are rated for 12,000 hours at 85°C. In a 40°C cabinet, the lifespan extends to about 18-22 years. The modular fan cartridge with dual ball-bearing fans is rated for 80,000 hours at 40°C (about 9.1 years). The PG2’s diagnostic features and data logging help you monitor the supply’s health over time—track the temperature and current trends to predict failures. We recommend replacing the fan cartridge every 5-7 years proactively.

Q: What’s the lead time for a surplus unit?
We keep 2-3 units in stock. Domestic: 2-3 business days ground, overnight if ordered by 2 PM EST. International: 5-7 days via DHL, with customs potentially adding 1-3 days. This board is not ITAR-controlled, so we can ship to most countries without an export license. We include a GE certificate of origin and commercial invoice with every shipment.
