Description

Product Introduction

When your Mark V rack is maxed out—multiple CPUs, communications cards, and high-current output boards—you need serious power. The 531X111PSHACG1 delivers 500W, the highest-capacity supply in the Mark V line. It sits in the dedicated PSU slot, converting 120/240 VAC into a regulated 24V bus that keeps the entire rack running.

Compared to the 531X111PSHACG (non-1 revision), the “G1” version includes a redesigned power stage with improved thermal management—the heatsink was enlarged and the fan was upgraded to a higher-flow model (50 CFM vs. 40 CFM). The hold-up time was also extended from 30ms to 35ms. The terminal assignment is identical—direct drop-in. No firmware changes required.

Compatible Replacement Models

Model Classification Notes & Labor Estimate
531X111PSHACG1 ✅ Drop-in Replacement Target model. Same form factor and backplane connector. No changes.
531X111PSHACG ✅ Drop-in Replacement Earlier revision—30ms hold-up, 40 CFM fan. Direct swap; you get better thermal performance and longer hold-up.
531X111PSHABG1 ✅ Drop-in Replacement 350W version (14.6A). Direct swap, but verify load—the ACG1 has more capacity.
531X111PSHAAG2 ✅ Drop-in Replacement 250W version (10.4A). Direct swap, but likely under-powered for a dense rack.
DS3800NPSA ❌ Hardware Incompatible Mark IV power supply—different form factor. Not compatible.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: What’s the main advantage of the ACG1 over the ABG1?
The ACG1 delivers 20.8A vs. the ABG1’s 14.6A—a 42% increase in capacity. It also has a higher power factor (>0.99 vs. >0.98), slightly better efficiency (91% vs. 90%), and longer hold-up (35ms vs. 30ms). If you have a densely populated rack with 12+ I/O modules or high-current output boards (e.g., 531X102CCHAJM2), the ACG1 gives you the headroom you need.

Q: What’s the total current draw of a fully populated Mark V rack with high-current boards?
A rack with a CPU, communications module, and 10 high-current output boards (each drawing 1-2A from the backplane) can pull 18-20A. The ACG1’s 20.8A is just enough—we recommend leaving 20% headroom (17A max). If your rack draws 20A, you’re at 96% of capacity—consider a second supply in parallel or redistributing modules across two racks. We’ve seen plants with 16 I/O boards draw 22A—the ACG1 would overload in that case.

Q: The Fault LED is red, but the DC OK LED is green. What’s happening?
Green DC OK means the 24V output is within spec. Red Fault indicates an internal warning—typically overtemperature (fan failure or blocked airflow) or an input voltage out of range (below 85VAC or above 265VAC). The ACG1 has a larger heatsink, but it also dissipates more heat at full load (about 45W). Check the fan—it’s a 92mm x 25mm, 12V DC unit rated at 50 CFM. If the fan is stalled, the supply will derate and eventually shut down.

Q: The inrush current is 35A peak. Is that a concern for my branch breaker?
35A peak for 2ms is within the tolerance of most 15A C-curve breakers (they typically trip at 10x rated for 10ms). However, if you have multiple supplies in a panel (e.g., two ACG1s), the combined inrush of 70A may trip a 20A breaker on startup. To avoid nuisance trips, use D-curve breakers or sequence the power-up of the supplies by stagerring the AC feeds—turn on one supply, wait 1 second, then turn on the second.

Q: The Overload LED is amber. What does that mean?
Amber Overload LED indicates the supply is drawing more than its continuous rating (20.8A). At loads between 20.8A and 25A, it’ll light amber and continue running—but the output voltage may droop (down to 22V). If the load exceeds 25A, the supply enters foldback current limiting (output drops to about 12V, and the LED flashes). Check your rack’s total load with a clamp meter on the backplane’s 24V line.

Q: Can I run two ACG1 supplies in parallel for redundancy?
Yes—the ACG1 has internal OR-ing diodes. Connect the DC outputs together (+24V to +24V, 0V to 0V) and feed the AC inputs from separate breakers. Each supply will share the load roughly equally (within 5%). The blue “Load Share” LED will light when both supplies are contributing. If one fails, the other takes the full load. But note: if your total rack load is 25A, a single ACG1 can’t carry it (20.8A max). In a redundant configuration, each supply should be sized for 50% of the load—so for a 20.8A total load, two ACG1s would each carry about 10.4A.

Q: Can I hot-swap the ACG1 while the rack is powered?
The board supports hot-swapping when used in a redundant configuration (two supplies in parallel). In a single-supply configuration, pulling the supply will immediately shut down the entire rack—a guaranteed turbine trip. If you have redundant supplies, you can pull one—but only if the OR-ing diodes are present (they’re internal to the ACG1). Verify the DC outputs are connected together before attempting.

Q: What’s the expected lifespan of the ACG1?
The electrolytic capacitors are rated for 12,000 hours at 85°C. In a 40°C cabinet, the lifespan extends to about 18-22 years. The fan is rated for 60,000 hours at 40°C (about 6.8 years). Replace the fan every 5-7 years proactively. The ACG1’s larger heatsink and higher-flow fan help the capacitors run cooler, extending their life vs. the ABG1.

Q: What’s the lead time for a surplus unit?
We keep 3-5 units in stock. Domestic: 2-3 business days ground, overnight if ordered by 2 PM EST. International: 5-7 days via DHL, with customs potentially adding 1-3 days. This board is not ITAR-controlled, so we can ship to most countries without an export license. We include a GE certificate of origin and commercial invoice with every shipment.
