Description
Product Introduction
Some Mark V racks are packed—multiple CPUs, communications modules, and high-current output boards all pulling from the same 24V bus. The 531X111PSHABG1 is the power supply for those racks, delivering 350W of regulated DC to keep everything running. It’s the high-capacity option for plants with dense I/O configurations.
Compared to the 531X111PSHABG (non-1 revision), the “G1” version adds a redesigned input stage with improved inrush current limiting—from 35A down to 25A peak—which reduces stress on upstream breakers. The hold-up time was also extended from 25ms to 30ms. The terminal assignment is identical—direct drop-in. No firmware changes required.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: What’s the main advantage of the ABG1 over the AAG2?
The ABG1 delivers 14.6A vs. the AAG2’s 10.4A—about 40% more capacity. If your rack has more than 8 I/O modules, a CPU, and a communications module, you’ll likely exceed 10A. The ABG1 also has a lower inrush current (25A vs. 30A), which reduces the chance of tripping a branch breaker on startup. The hold-up time is 30ms vs. 25ms—extra insurance for UPS transfer.
Q: What’s the total current draw of a fully populated Mark V rack?
A typical fully populated Mark V rack—CPU, communications module, 10 I/O boards (mix of analog, digital, and RTD)—draws about 12-14A. The ABG1’s 14.6A is just enough, but we recommend leaving 20% headroom. If your rack draws 14A, you’re at 96% of capacity—consider a second supply in parallel or redistributing modules across two racks. We’ve seen plants with 16 I/O boards and two CPUs draw 16A—the ABG1 would overload in that case.
Q: The Fault LED is red, but the DC OK LED is green. What’s happening?
Green DC OK means the 24V output is within spec. Red Fault indicates an internal warning—typically overtemperature (fan failure or blocked airflow) or an input voltage out of range (below 85VAC or above 265VAC). The ABG1 has a larger heatsink than the AAG2, but it also dissipates more heat at full load. Check the fan—it’s a 92mm x 25mm, 12V DC unit. If the fan is stalled, the supply will derate and eventually shut down.
Q: The inrush current is 25A peak. Is that a concern for my branch breaker?
25A peak for 2ms is well within the tolerance of most 10A C-curve breakers (they typically trip at 10x rated for 10ms). However, if you have multiple supplies in a panel (e.g., two ABG1s), the combined inrush of 50A may trip a 20A breaker. To avoid nuisance trips, use D-curve breakers (which tolerate higher inrush) or sequence the power-up of the supplies by stagerring the AC feeds.
Q: The Overload LED is amber. What does that mean?
Amber Overload LED indicates the supply is drawing more than its continuous rating (14.6A). At loads between 14.6A and 17.5A, it’ll light amber and continue running—but the output voltage may droop (down to 22V). If the load exceeds 17.5A, the supply enters foldback current limiting (output drops to about 12V, and the LED flashes). Check your rack’s total load with a clamp meter on the backplane’s 24V line.
Q: Can I run two ABG1 supplies in parallel for redundancy?
Yes—the ABG1 has internal OR-ing diodes. Connect the DC outputs together (+24V to +24V, 0V to 0V) and feed the AC inputs from separate breakers. Each supply will share the load roughly equally. If one fails, the other takes the full load. But note: if your total rack load is 20A, a single ABG1 can’t carry it (14.6A max). In a redundant configuration, each supply should be sized for 50% of the load—so for a 14.6A total load, two ABG1s would each carry about 7.3A.
Q: Can I hot-swap the ABG1 while the rack is powered?
The board supports hot-swapping when used in a redundant configuration (two supplies in parallel). In a single-supply configuration, pulling the supply will immediately shut down the entire rack. If you have redundant supplies, you can pull one—but only if the OR-ing diodes are present (they’re internal to the ABG1). Verify the DC outputs are connected together before attempting.
Q: What’s the expected lifespan of the ABG1?
The electrolytic capacitors are rated for 10,000 hours at 85°C. In a 40°C cabinet, the lifespan extends to about 15-20 years. The fan is rated for 60,000 hours at 40°C (about 6.8 years). Replace the fan every 5-7 years proactively. The ABG1’s larger heatsink helps the capacitors run cooler, extending their life vs. the AAG2.
Q: What’s the lead time for a surplus unit?
We keep 4-6 units in stock. Domestic: 2-3 business days ground, overnight if ordered by 2 PM EST. International: 5-7 days via DHL, with customs potentially adding 1-3 days. This board is not ITAR-controlled, so we can ship to most countries without an export license. We include a GE certificate of origin and commercial invoice with every shipment.
