Description
Product Introduction
Long cable runs and high-impedance actuators demand more voltage headroom. The 531X102CCHAJM2 delivers—with a 26V compliance voltage, it can push 20mA through 1000Ω loads, making it the go-to board for plants with significant distances between the control rack and the field valves.
Compared to the 531X102CCHAJM (non-2 revision), the “M2” version upgrades the output driver stage with a redesigned current source that maintains accuracy even at the top of the compliance range. The thermal design was also improved, allowing the board to run cooler at full load. The terminal assignment is identical—direct drop-in. No firmware changes required.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: What’s the maximum load resistance the AJM2 can drive?
1300Ω at 26V compliance. That’s the highest in the Mark V output board family. For a typical 250Ω valve positioner, you have 1050Ω left for cable. With 18 AWG wire (0.006Ω/ft round trip), that’s about 1800 feet (550m). The older 531X102CCHAEM1 (24V compliance) gives you 1200Ω max load—the AJM2’s extra 2V translates to about 300 feet of additional cable length.
Q: What’s the difference between the AJM2 and the AEM1?
The AJM2 has 26V compliance vs. the AEM1’s 24V—a 2V improvement that extends cable length by about 300 feet. The AJM2 also has a more robust output driver that’s less prone to overheating at full load—the thermal design was upgraded on the M2 revision. If you have long cable runs or high-impedance actuators (>500Ω), the AJM2 is the better choice.
Q: The amber overload LED on channel 5 is on. What does that mean?
The amber LED indicates the output has detected a current above 22mA for more than 100ms or the load resistance is below 50Ω (short). The board will fold back to about 4mA. Check the actuator’s impedance—if it’s below 50Ω, you have a short or the actuator is drawing too much current. Disconnect the load and measure the resistance. To reset the fault, fix the short and cycle the output command from the CPU.
Q: Can I use the AJM2 for 0-20mA outputs?
Yes—the board can be configured for 0-20mA via GE’s Toolbox software. The default is 4-20mA. If you switch to 0-20mA, a 50% output would be 10mA instead of 12mA. This is rarely used in turbine control—most actuators expect 4-20mA with the 4mA offset for diagnostics.
Q: The output is not responding to the CPU command. What should I check?
Check the communication status LED first. If it’s flashing, the board isn’t talking to the CPU—reseat it. If it’s solid green, check the output scaling in the I/O map. If the channel is configured for 0-20mA but the CPU sends a 4-20mA signal, the output will be offset. Also, check the actuator wiring—a high-resistance connection on the Output- terminal can cause intermittent response.
Q: Does the AJM2 have per-channel isolation?
Yes—each output channel is individually isolated from the backplane and from other channels. You can drive actuators with different ground references without creating ground loops. Each loop should be independent—don’t tie the returns together.
Q: The Fault LED is flashing red. What does that indicate?
Flashing red indicates a communication loss with the CPU over the backplane. Reseat the board. If the fault persists, try the board in a known-good slot. If it works there, the original slot has a backplane issue. If it fails in the good slot, the board’s backplane interface may be faulty—a common failure after power surges. Contact us for repair or replacement.
Q: What’s the settling time of the outputs?
5ms to 0.1% of final value. That’s fast enough for most turbine control loops—fuel valve response is typically 50-100ms. If you’re controlling a fast-acting servo valve with sub-10ms response, the 5ms settling time is still adequate.
Q: Can I hot-swap the AJM2 while the turbine is running?
No. Pulling an output board while the turbine is running will break the control loops—the fuel valve may go to its fail-safe position. Always schedule a planned outage. If you must do it (e.g., a failed board on a critical loop), ensure the CPU has output tracking enabled and the actuators are in manual mode.
Q: What’s the lead time for a surplus unit?
We keep 3-5 units in stock. Domestic: 2-3 business days ground, overnight if ordered by 2 PM EST. International: 5-7 days via DHL, with customs potentially adding 1-3 days. This board is not ITAR-controlled, so we can ship to most countries without an export license. We include a GE certificate of origin and commercial invoice with every shipment. Contact us if you need expedited shipping for a critical outage.
